About Us
Dereham Jazz Society promotes Lakeside Jazz every Wednesday at Lakeside Country Club, Quarry Lane, Lyng, Norfolk NR9 5RS. The 2012 "Spring Collection" runs from 15 February to 6 June.

Our live jazz series "Lakeside Jazz" operates from its base at Lakeside Country Club, Lyng, Norfolk. We are a not for profit organisation run by unpaid volunteers. We meet on Wednesdays and our year is split into two distinct seasons (the Spring Collection and the Autumn Collection) separated by substantial breaks. In this way we present about 33 events per year in a friendly, informal atmosphere.
   DJS aims to provide a wide variety of jazz music from trios to big bands. Music styles vary from week to week and include traditional, mainstream, bebop, hot club, jazz guitar and modern jazz of the ‘accessible’ kind. We generally do not promote music that is very contemporary or progressive. As well as providing a platform for some fine local musicians, we also bring talent from the surrounding counties, from London and even the USA.
   We like to present a Big Band night at least once in every two month programme. There a number of excellent local big bands who appear at Lakeside in rotation.
   We publish our events in a printed gig list posted or emailed to jazz fans on our mailing list. Up-to-date information is also available on this web site.

At various venues, we have had 14 continuous years of presenting the best in live jazz.

The venue

Lakeside Country Club is set in 60 acres of parkland. It houses the largest indoor bowling rink in the region, has bars, function rooms and a restaurant. If you are planning to dine, please call Lakeside: 01603 870400 to check that the restaurant will be serving. The room is very comfortable with an excellent PA system and acoustic. It is set out with tables in a ‘café’ style. The advertised admission fee is the concert price.


How to find us

Coming from the Dereham, Swaffham and King’s Lynn direction, leave the A47 at the North Tuddenham sign (the next exit after Aldiss Park). At the T junction immediately after leaving the A47 turn right, signed Lyng and Elsing. Simply follow that road ignoring all side roads until you come to a large GIVE WAY sign. You are now in Lyng and Quarry Lane and Lakeside are straight ahead in front of you. It couldn’t be easier.

From the A1067 Norwich/ Fakenham Road, take the turning signposted to Lyng which is about half way between Bawdeswell and Lenwade. The Lyng turning is a right hander coming from the Fakenham direction and a left turn from the Norwich direction. Once over the bridge follow the road as it bears to the right. You will pass the Fox & Hounds pub and Quarry Lane is on the right, by the sign to Elsing and just beyond the little village garage on the left. Lakeside Country Club is signposted, but keep your eyes peeled as the oval sign is buried in a hedge, just inside the lane.

Quarry Lane has some severe speed bumps, so be careful!
