Lakeside News

Keep on keeping on . . .

At the beginning of a new year we implore the recipients of our email and postal lists to make some space and time to support the Lakeside Jazz series. Our new yearly structure and start time have been well received, but on occasions our audience numbers are painfully thin. (Here I would add a special thank you to our regular loyal supporters who turn up like clockwork). Of course we all have different time and money pressures, but if all our live jazz enthusiasts turned out for just one event per listing, the future of Dereham Jazz Society and the Lakeside Jazz series would be assured. This will be our 15th year and the music on offer just gets better and better. If you can make a personal commitment to attend just one event per listing then you can be certain that we will be here for year 16 and beyond. Please help.

A challenge for you?

When we reopen after a lengthy break we like to do it with a splash. Last time we gave it to the traditionalists featuring the exceptional Stars of British Jazz. Their supporters turned out in droves and we had a capacity audience. On the 15 February it is the turn of the modernists. We have procured the services of the John Law Trio, one of the UK’s top piano jazz trios currently on the club circuit. If this more contemporary sound is your style of jazz, then show your enthusiasm in equal amounts as the Stars fans, and fill our room.

Piano restoration

At the time of writing, we are planing an extensive restoration and restringing of our piano. It is on permanent loan from Ivars Galenieks who will personally do much of the work. We are asking for donations toward the cost and if you have contributed, please accept our thanks. However, the account is not yet closed, and if you are reading this and can contribute a few pounds
please contact any of the telephone numbers on our home page. Cheques can be made out to Dereham Jazz Society.

The Stars of British Jazz,
Dereham Festival 2012

The organisers of Dereham Festival have offered DJS the wonderful opportunity of promoting a Festival event in the newly refurbished Memorial Hall. The revamp saw more than 4 million pounds invested in the Hall. Situated centrally, it now provides modern stage, sound, lighting, seating and refreshment facilities and is a credit to the Town. We have seized this chance and have booked the venue for June 6. After the great response we had for The Stars of British Jazz in August 2011 have engaged them again with the aim of filling the hall to capacity. There are 300 seats available, tickets are £16 and you can reserve yours now. Ours will be the only jazz concert of the Festival in the Memorial Hall and we hope to reach out to as many people as possible to shout about DJS.
